Two teams look to build on opening draws

Shakhtar and Atalanta will both aim to secure their first win of the Champions League campaign when they meet at the VELTINS-Arena in Gelsenkirchen.

Shakhtar have endured mixed fortunes this season as they currently sit third in the Ukrainian Premier League. From seven matches they have won four, drawn one and lost two, with the losses coming against Polissia and Oleksandriya.

They are unbeaten in four games, though, and that run includes the 0-0 away draw against Bologna on Matchday One.

Goalkeeper Tymur Puzankov has been missing since January due to a serious knee injury and will be out a while longer.

Danylo Sikan suffered a facial injury against Bologna and has missed the last two games. It seems unlikely he’ll be passed fit to play this one, though Yukhym Konoplya returned from injury in Friday’s league game.

Atalanta are on a poor run of form with just one with victory in their last six matches in all competitions. Indeed, they’ve won just two games all season which came against Lecce and Fiorentina.

In their last three, they have drawn with Arsenal in the Champions League and lost against Como and drawn with Bologna in Serie A.

Gianluca Scamacca and Giorgio Scalvini are out until 2025 due to serious knee injuries, while there are major doubts over Rafael Toloi, Ben Godfrey and Marco Brescianini.

Isak Hien missed the Bologna game due an abductor issue but could make it back.
