Newcastle facing suspension risk – Key player one away from missing Brighton clash

As Premier League rules state, any player who receive a total of five yellow cards in their first 19 fixtures will be given a one-match suspension.

Six games into the new season, five players sit on four yellow cards – and one of those is Joelinton after his latest caution in Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Man City.

Having also been booked in our 1-1 draw at Bournemouth, our 2-1 win over Spurs and 2-2 draw at Wolves, the Brazilian is one yellow card away from a ban. Dan Burn isn’t far behind on three bookings, with Bruno Guimaraes on two.

Looking at our upcoming fixtures, Joelinton will miss our home clash with Brighton on Saturday 19th October if he’s booked at Everton this weekend. Alternatively, if he escapes a yellow against the Toffees but receives one against Brighton, he’ll miss our trip to Chelsea on Sunday 27th October.

Saturday 5th October: Everton v Newcastle – 5.30pm (Sky Sports)
Saturday 19th October: Newcastle v Brighton – 3pm
Sunday 27th October: Chelsea v Newcastle – 2pm (Sky Sports)
Saturday 2nd November: Newcastle v Arsenal – 12.30pm (TNT Sports)
Sunday 10th November: Nottingham Forest vs Newcastle – 2pm (Sky Sports)
Monday 25th November: Newcastle v West Ham – 8pm (Sky Sports)
Saturday 30th November: Crystal Palace v Newcastle – 3pm

The four others who are one yellow away from suspension include Chelsea’s Marc Cucurella and Wesley Fofana, Fulham’s Sasa Lukic and Ipswich’s Sam Morsy.
