Newcastle considering January loan if new signing arrives – Report

According to Mark Douglas at the i, Newcastle could sanction a January loan move for young striker Will Osula.

He reports that a temporary move could be on the cards for the big Dane should Newcastle bring in another attacker this winter, suggesting another forward may be on our radar.

This comes after the 21-year-old made his first competitive start in Tuesday’s Carabao Cup win over Wimbledon. He showed signs of promise – he’s a big unit with pace and sharp movement – but is still raw and in need of minutes.

In his latest piece for the i, Douglas said: “A loan in January, if Newcastle can secure additional forward replacements, is understood to be a possibility although for now, intensive coaching in a competitive Premier League environment is seen as the best way to develop him.”

Fans have been quick to show their support for Osula and believe he definitely has the potential to develop into a dangerous Premier League striker in time. Douglas added that “Clearly he has something – Osula lurks diligently on the shoulder of the final defender before making his runs – but there is a rawness about his play.”

Right now, with Alexander Isak currently suffering from a toe injury that has ruled him out of Sweden’s Nations League fixtures and Callum Wilson’s ongoing injury issues, questions will be asked on if Newcastle can truly afford to offload Osula even on a loan. But, should another option arrive in January, it could make sense for all parties if he’s not yet ready for Premier League football.

With Wilson’s contract set to expire next summer, and clubs like Fulham and Brentford reportedly keen on signing the 32-year-old, the upcoming transfer window will be key to see who the Magpies choose to play back up to Isak for the remainder of the campaign.
