Barcelona maestro feeling close to 100% fit, on track to break two-year curse

Pedri González’s consistent presence in Barcelona’s starting lineup this season was something that seemed unthinkable just a few months ago.

After an injury-plagued 2023/24 campaign, doubts loomed over whether the midfielder would regain his previous form.

However, the 20-year-old has silenced those concerns with an impressive return, becoming a key figure in Hansi Flick’s plans for the new season.

Pedri feeling fully fit

Pedri has featured in nearly every match since La Liga’s second game. The only exceptions were the opener against Valencia, where he made a second-half appearance and a brief rest against Getafe.

His 650 minutes on the pitch so far are already a third of his total playing time from last season, showcasing the continuity he’s longed for after battling multiple injuries.

SPORT suggests Pedri is now feeling close to ‘hundred percent’ thanks to such an eventful start to the campaign and some proper guidance by new coach Hansi Flick.

As Barcelona prepare to face Alaves on Sunday, Pedri is set to complete 13 consecutive matches, a streak that could extend to 15 during the international break with games against Denmark and Serbia.

Achieving this milestone would mark his longest stretch of uninterrupted appearances since 2022, breaking a two-year curse.

With two goals and two assists already under his belt, the Tenerife native has quickly become one of Flick’s untouchable players, alongside the likes of Kounde, Raphinha, and Lewandowski.

What about his future at Barcelona?

Earlier in the summer, it was suggested that Pedri may not be untouchable at Barcelona if his injury woes had continued.

But the Spaniard has now proven everyone that he is capable of being an ever-present figure in the Barcelona midfield, which is why the club have already prioritised the contract extension of the young…
