Austin FC fires Josh Wolff as head coach

Austin FC’s failure to make the 2024 MLS Cup Playoffs has led to a coaching change.

Josh Wolff has been fired as head coach after four seasons at the helm, Austin FC announced Sunday. Wolff was hired as head coach in 2019, registering a 45-30-60 record in MLS regular season matches.

“As the first manager in Club history, we would like to extend our gratitude for Josh’s role in the growth and development of our Club. It will always be appreciated,” said Austin FC’s Majority Owner and CEO Anthony Precourt. “After back-to-back seasons without playoff qualification, we realize that a fresh start is required next season under the leadership of a new head coach.”

“As an organization, our on-field ambitions are to be among the highest performing clubs in MLS year-over-year, “said ATX sporting director Rodolfo Borrell. “To do that, progression is essential, and looking forward, we’ll now immediately begin a search for a new manager who can help us translate our ambition into consistent, high-level performance.”

He led ATX to their first-ever playoff appearance in 2022 after the club totaled a 16-8-10 record in regular season play. Austin FC reached the Western Conference final before falling to eventual MLS Cup winners, LAFC.

Austin FC has one final match remaining this season, missing out on the playoffs for the third time in four years. They currently have 39 points earned in 33 matches.
