As has already been reported, FC Barcelona have been working on renewing the contract of midfield gem Fermin Lopez.
The 21-year-old signed a new deal just over a year ago but his market value and stature have skyrocketed since and as such, the Blaugrana are working to hand him a new contract which reflects his meteoric rise.
Agreement done
In fact, according to Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona and Fermin have reached an agreement on the extension, both in terms of duration and economic conditions, of the midfielder’s contract.
A few details still need to be ironed out and then the player’s final approval of the contract will have to be given, but both parties have already agreed on the conditions of the new contract.
Barcelona, with the backing of the coaching staff, wants to ensure the continuity of Fermin, a player whose stock rose like wildfire last season and who consolidated his place in the elite after winning the European Championship and the Olympic gold medal.

As mentioned earlier, Fermin had signed a new deal only in August last year, which runs until 2027 and consists of a release clause worth €400 million.
Former manager Xavi Hernandez had been a key figure in Fermin’s emergence and his resultant contract extension. And while he is no longer at the club, the Catalans still consider Fermin as a strategic player and Hansi Flick also considers him to be an important part.
Fermin’s new deal is said to run until the summer of 2029, meaning he will be renewed for four more seasons apart from the ongoing campaign.
Current Challenges
Fermin faces significant competition for playing time. He suffered an injury with the Spanish Under-21 national team in September and experienced another injury in training with Barcelona three weeks ago affecting his other leg.
