It is no secret that former Barcelona defender Oscar Mingueza has been thriving at Celta Vigo this season. The defender has been one of the standout performers in La Liga on the back of which he has broken into the Spain squad.
Mingueza’s performances have naturally sparked speculations about a possible return to Barça with previous reports suggesting that the Catalans have a buyback clause for the defender.
Celta Vigo director Marco Garcés recently clarified that while Barça do not have a buyback option for Mingueza they do have a right of first refusal and a 50% future sell-on clause.
Barcelona weighing up January move
Now, according to ESport3, Barcelona are weighing up a possible January move for Oscar Mingueza as they look for reinforcements in the defensive department.
The 25-year-old former La Masia man has excelled at Celta this season, racking up two goals and four assists from eight games.
Mingueza’s versatility has shone through as he has excelled as a right-back, a left-back, and in wing-back positions on both flanks while he is also capable of playing at centre-half.

This versatility, coupled with his physical profile, has made him an attractive prospect for Barcelona coach Hansi Flick, who is looking to bolster his options on the flanks and provide cover for Jules Kounde.
Mingueza would cost €10 million
As per the report, Mingueza has a release clause worth €20 million in his contract with Celta Vigo. Considering that Barcelona have a 50% future sell-on clause on the defender, they could sign him for a reasonable fee of just €10 million.
The Galician outfit, for their part, are trying to renew the 25-year-old’s contract and prolong his stay, with their club president Marian Mourino, recently saying:
“Mingueza is happy here, and we’re happy with him. It’s a matter of sitting down when the time comes….
