According to CaughtOffside, Newcastle United sent scouts to watch over Red Star midfielder Andrija Maksimovic in their 4-0 defeat to Inter Milan in the Champions League on Tuesday night.
The 17-year-old has been tipped to be the next top European talent with a number of big clubs, including Man City and Chelsea, keeping a close eye on him.
The report claims that it is Brighton who are looking to get ahead of the curve and have already inquired about his availability, thought they will not be the only ones making a move in the coming weeks and months.
Maksimovic has only played six times for Red Star’s senior side, typically as an attacking midfielder, but he has clearly impressed at youth level and could be looking to make the jump to a top club on the next couple of windows.
Newcastle have already attracted some top young talent, but could would be a big coup for us given the calibre of clubs currently chasing the teenager’s signature.
