Genoa and Sampdoria bid to buy Stadio Luigi Ferraris

October 15 – Genoa FC and UC Sampdoria have formed a 50-50 partnership, Genova Stadium SRL, to purchase their shared Stadio Luigi Ferraris from Genoese authorities.

Both clubs, playing in Serie A and Serie B respectively, see this acquisition as key to modernising the historic venue and ensuring long-term financial security.

The move is especially vital for Genoa following the financial collapse of their owners, 777 Partners. The US-based firm, which holds stakes in multiple clubs, is seeking buyers for all its football assets.

Acquiring the 36,599-capacity stadium would provide the clubs with the opportunity to build matchday revenues unencumbered, hence helping to provide financial stability.

For both Genoa and Sampdoria, securing ownership of their stadium would mark a pivotal step toward stability in a difficult period behind the scenes. In May 2023 Sampdoria were saved from bankruptcy when former Leeds United owner Andrea Radrizzani  and businessman Matteo Manfredi bought the club from previous owner Massimo Ferrero to buy

Genoa, who place 18th in the Serie A table, face Bologna on Saturday afternoon in a bid to lift themselves out of the relegation zone. Meanwhile, Sampdoria have struggled in the opening of the Serie B season, resulting in a disappointing string of results which have placed them 15th in the table after eight games.
