Marc Guehi breaks silence on Crystal Palace struggles as Newcastle eye January bid

Top Newcastle transfer target Marc Guehi has commented on a “tough” summer, which included a long transfer saga over a move to Tyneside.

Guehi was a key part of Gareth Southgate’s side that reached the Euro 2024 final, before finding himself at the centre of a transfer saga which saw a bid of £65million rejected by Palace, resulting in a short summer break for the England international.

“I’d say [it’s been] quite tough not having a pre-season, not having much of a break and going straight back into it,”

“I kind of handled it as best as I can. The Euros was such an amazing experience, but just not quite getting there. And since then I’ve just tried to get my head down, tried to get to work.”

“It’s been a tough start for us at Palace, but I think everyone’s pulling in the right direction to try and get ourselves back to where we want to be.”

Guehi has endured a tough start to his Premier League campaign, with Oliver Glasner’s side currently winless and sitting in 18th position in the league table.

Newcastle are expected to return to the negotiating table with Palace in the winter window, where a reduced offer could be enough to tempt the Eagles into selling their captain or face losing him on a free in 2026.

Should it come to fruition, many fans will be hoping that Guehi can return to the form that saw him start the Euro final vs Spain, and fully warrant the near-record transfer fee it may take to bring Eddie Howe one of his top transfer targets.
