Newcastle set for double boost ahead of Saturday’s clash with injury-hit Brighton

It looks like Newcastle United will welcome two key players back to the squad this Saturday for our home clash with Brighton; who could be without several first-team stars.

As revealed by Craig Hope at The Mail, both Alexander Isak (toe) and Callum Wilson (back/hamstring) look set to be available for selection after overcoming injury issues over the international break.

The pair were due back in training this week and, providing there are no setbacks over the next 48 hours, it’s hoped both will be back in Eddie Howe’s squad for Saturday’s 3pm kick-off. However, Kieran Trippier is facing a few weeks on the sidelines and will sit out this one along with Lewis Miley, Sven Botman and Jamaal Lascelles.

Isak has missed the last three games with a broken toe and Wilson is yet to feature this season after a procedure on his back over the summer, leaving us light in attack and Howe reluctant to throw new signing Will Osula straight into the side.

As for Brighton, star man Joao Pedro is expected to miss out again, as will summer signing Matt O’Riley. They’ll also be without two centre-backs this weekend in Jan Paul van Hecke and Adam Webster, although former Mag James Milner may return after a few weeks out.

One player we will see for the first time at St James’ Park is Yankuba Minteh; the former Toon talent sacrificed for PSR reasons who scored in their 3-2 win over Spurs two weeks ago.
