Despite social media speculation, it remains unlikely that Sven Botman will return to the Newcastle United squad from his injury until at least December.
As touched on by the Daily Mail’s Craig Hope, the Dutchman teased an impending return on his social media accounts, having needed knee surgery on an ACL issue back in March.
Following an Instagram post captioned ‘finish line in sight’ during light training at the club’s Benton training base, Hope has dispelled rumours that he’s close to a comeback, stating Botman’s return “remains, at best, some time in December.”
Botman was one of a number of Newcastle players who played through injuries at key points of last season’s campaign, having previously said “I did my knee against Brentford but then played two games after that (without realising).” before his season ending ACL injury against Manchester City just a short time later.
With the introduction of Performance Director James Bunce into the Magpies’ setup, avoiding another situation like Botman becoming injured for 9 months will be paramount if Newcastle are looking to secure European football this season.
So it shouldn’t surprise anyone if Howe and co. take the precautions to ease Botman slowly back into the squad rather than rush him back for one of Fabian Schar or Dan Burn.
