Injured Barcelona defender recovering well, starts individual training – report

Barcelona’s dressing room is at the highest point it has been all season, especially after the developments at the weekend.

The 5-1 win over Sevilla was the perfect start the Catalans needed after the international break, but Gavi’s long-awaited return to the field only brought more joy on the night. Fermin Lopez’s return only added to the occasion.

Fresh off the high of welcoming multiple midfielders back, the Blaugrana are now primarily suffering from absences in defence. Sergi Capdevila provides a promising update on that front.

Christensen on his way back

As revealed by the Spanish journalist, star defender Andreas Christensen is making a positive recovery and is recovering well from his Achilles injury.

Ahead of Barcelona’s game against Bayern Munich, the Danish international was seen training individually which is a positive development and a sign of an imminent return.

The defender featured in Barcelona’s opening game of the season against Valencia and even played 26 minutes on the night. An unfortunate setback in his Achilles tendon, however, ruled him out of action for months.

With the player unavailable for the medium to long term, Barcelona utilised the chance to register Dani Olmo in La Liga in place of the veteran defender.

This means that Christensen cannot directly walk into the team once recovered, though Joan Laporta has indicated that the club has sufficient financial injection incoming to ensure no problems on that front.

It remains to be seen how long the defender requires before he is back in action, for his return will serve as a big boost to Hansi Flick’s plans and enable regular rotations in central defence.

Further, Christensen will also act as a reliable option to be part of the double pivot which is the pillar-stone of Flick’s side.
