PSG fans keep up their homophobic snearing

October 23 – A section of Paris Saint-Germain fans loudly jeered an announcement before Tuesday’s home draw with PSV Eindhoven in the Champions League that reminded supporters that discriminatory chanting is prohibited.

PSG face potential disciplinary action after supporters at Parc des Princes made homophobic chants about bitter rival Marseille during last Saturday’s home game against Strasbourg. While the chanting was happening, the stadium announcer twice asked for the chants to stop and was jeered.

The league’s disciplinary committee is looking into evidence from that game and is set to announce its findings next week.

PSG won 4-2 but it was marred by fans abusive targeting of Marseille midfielder Adrien Rabiot, who previously played for PSG. The two clubs clash next weekend.

“These new discriminatory chants by Paris Saint-Germain fans are unacceptable even though the whole of professional football has been working for several seasons to ban homophobic behaviour and chants from stadiums,” the LFP said in a statement.

In its own statement PSG tried to reduce the impact of whatever blow might come their way.

“Paris Saint-Germain reaffirms its commitment against all forms of discrimination including homophobia. The club takes all necessary measures, before and during matches, to ensure that the Parc des Princes remains an inclusive place for all.”

Some fans clearly still don’t get the message.
