After finally deciding to sack Erik ten Hag on Monday afternoon, Man Utd are now stepping up their efforts to appoint a replacement.
A decisive call from one our ‘big six’ rivals and it looks like they’ve already made their move, with the ever-reliable David Ornstein revealing Ruben Amorim is already in the frame in his latest exclusive for The Athletic.
Ornstein reports that Dan Ashworth and Co. are ‘working on a deal’ to appoint the Sporting Lisbon boss and prepared to pay his €10m release clause to make it happen.
The 39-year-old is ‘open’ to becoming the new head coach at Old Trafford and it seems things could move quickly after talks, with Man Utd chiefs keen to make a swift appointment after Sunday’s 2-1 defeat at West Ham.
Newcastle are yet to face Man Utd this season – a shame given their awful form under the now-sacked ten Hag – but will travel to Old Trafford shortly after Christmas on 30th December.
Amorim is now the considered the big favourite to become the next Man Utd boss, while the bookies also see Gareth Southgate, Thomas Frank and Xavi Hernandez and Graham Potter as contenders for the job.
