Newcastle plan Bryan Mbeumo move but Toon would face summer sacrifice – Report

According to The Telegraph, Newcastle United are exploring a January move for Brentford star Bryan Mbeumo – but any big-money deal would have ramifications for next summer.

Luke Edwards reports that Newcastle face more financial limitations heading into 2025 after failing to move on high earners like Kieran Trippier or Callum Wilson and, as a result, it’s believed a sale would have to take place next summer to enable us to spend big on Mbeumo this winter.

Howe is thought to be well aware of our need to strengthen the right wing position and at center-back after failing to address either over the summer, but our financial situation may limit us to one major arrival in the January window.

Only Man City’s Erling Haaland (11) has outscored Mbeumo in the Premier League this season, with the Cameroon international bagging an outstanding eight goals in Brentford’s opening nine league games so far.

The 25-year-old netted nine goals and six assists in 25 appearances last season and scored a brace in their 4-3 win over Ipswich on Saturday to fire Thomas Frank’s side into the top half.

It’s frustrating to hear we’d have to sell next summer to sign someone like Mbeumo – who won’t be easy to prise away mid-season given his importance to Brentford and current form. However, he would be an ideal addition to the side and would be well worth signing if it meant the likes of Trippier, Wilson or Almiron were sold at the end of the season.
