Leila Pereira re-elected to presidency of Palmeiras for second time period

November 26 – Leila Pereira has been re-elected as president of Brazilian giants Palmeiras for a second three-year time period.

She convincingly defeated Savério Orlandi and his ‘Palmeiras is my life’ group with 2,295 votes in opposition to 858 from a complete of three,183.

Pereira will start her new mandate on December 15 with Maria Teresa Bellangero, Paulo Buosi, Everaldo Coelho and Márcio Martin serving as vice presidents. She first turned president in 2021 after years of involvement on the membership. Up to now, she has confronted criticism that Crefisa, an organization owned by her husband, used their sponsorship to affect her election.

“This spectacular vote whole, with 72% of the votes, is the results of the work we’ve got carried out during the last three years,” stated Pereira.

“It’s a recognition from the members, a ratification of every part we’ve got carried out effectively for the membership and our soccer. The problem is to beat these three years, which have been very profitable, and to proceed to worth our membership. It’s to do every part that the members count on from a president and to surpass what we did within the first time period.”

In a two-horse race with Botafogo, Palmeiras moved to the highest of the desk final weekend after the Rio membership dropped factors in opposition to Vitoria in a 1-1 draw. On Tuesday, the 2 groups meet in Sao Paulo in what might be the league decider.

Wanting ahead to the 2025 season and emphasising that she desires to maintain supervisor Abel Ferreira on the membership, Pereira stated: “There received’t be [signing a star]. For me, the nice figures of Palmeiras are with us, that is our squad that may be very aggressive, that has been with us for a while, very profitable, it’s apparent that we’re planning signings for subsequent 12 months, however nothing bombastic, Palmeiras doesn’t work like that. I don’t imagine that one athlete can remedy the problem of successful titles. Soccer is a collective factor. Our nice star is our squad. That’s why I don’t prefer to idolize anybody in any respect. If you happen to idolize one, the others say: ‘OK, good-looking, go on the market and play alone’. That doesn’t exist in soccer.”
