Former Russian defender Aleksei Bugayev killed combating in Ukraine

January 2 –  Aleksei Bugayev, a former member of Russia’s nationwide group who performed at Euro 2004, has been killed within the conflict in Ukraine, Russian media quoted his father and agent as saying.

“Sadly, the information about Aleksei’s dying is true. It occurred in the present day,” TASS information company quoted the participant’s father Ivan as telling the Sport24 information outlet.

RIA information company quoted Bugayev’s agent, Anton Smirnov, as saying intense combating had made it unimaginable to retrieve Bugayev’s physique for burial.

In September Bugayev, who retired from soccer aged 29 in 2010, was sentenced by a courtroom in southern Russia to 9 and a half years in jail on drug trafficking fees. He later declared his intention to enroll to combat within the Ukraine conflict to keep away from serving the sentence.
