January 24 – Swiss prosecutors have dropped their investigation into Veron Mosengo-Omba, secretary basic of the Confederation of African Soccer (CAF), citing inadequate proof to proceed with authorized motion.
The investigation was initiated in February 2024, for alleged suspicious funds involving Swiss financial institution accounts.
The allegations had been that Mosengo-Omba – as soon as the chief officer of member associations at FIFA and a detailed affiliate of Gianni Infantino – had acquired bonuses exceeding the contractual limits set by CAF and raised considerations about money withdrawals that allegedly hindered transparency and traceability.
Mosengo-Omba, appointed basic secretary of CAF in 2021, constantly maintained his innocence, describing the transactions as “respectable” and clarifying that they constituted “remuneration and bonuses” acquired transparently as a part of his CAF employment.
