Newcastle eyeing €30m Marseille star – Report

It’s bound to be a busy summer transfer window on Tyneside, as Newcastle’s squad may soon be in desperate need of reinforcements.

Alongside a new right-sided centre-back, goalkeeper, and backup striker, perhaps the most important position Newcastle need to fill is a right winger for the future, with Anthony Gordon, Harvey Barnes and Jacob Murphy currently the club’s only designated senior options.

Fortunately, however, Newcastle could be eyeing up one of Ligue 1’s top performing wide men so far this season.

Newcastle may soon find themselves locking horns with some of Europe’s elite sides over the services of Marseille’s Luis Henrique.

According to French outlet Foot Mercato, Newcastle are interested in the 23-year-old winger along with Nottingham Forest, Inter Milan, Bayer Leverkusen and Bayern Munich.

The Brazilian has recorded nine goals and seven assists in all competitions this season, having previously played in his native country for Botafogo.

Described as a ‘prize asset’ of the French club, Henrique is said to have a €30m price tag attached to him.

As of right now, it’s reported that Inter Milan are the front runners in negotiations, hoping to lock down the player before the start of the Club World Cup in June.

Time will tell if we plan to make a move, but he appears to tick a few boxes as a young, versatile talent who can play down both flanks (or at wing-back) and may not demand a mega fee.

For €30m in today’s market, you may be hard pressed to find a better value option at such a young age, with experience in both top domestic and continental competitions.

In that respect, he’d certainly fit the criteria Paul Mitchell may target this summer with most domestic options likely to cost double this figure.

However, considering the aforementioned clubs Newcastle are competing with to sign Luis Henrique, Champions League football is almost guaranteed for all of them, and Eddie Howe’s side will no doubt have to match that if they want to stand any real chance in negotiations.
