English stadium ranking puts Anfield top, followed by Old Trafford and St James’ Park

April 4 – Anfield has been crowned the UK’s best football stadium in a new ranking by tech company NSoft, which analysed 30 grounds across England and Scotland using a mix of matchday metrics.

Liverpool’s storied home scored 8.85 out of 10 in the index, which factored in stadium capacity, proximity to public transport, cost of a pie and pint, parking availability and Google reviews.

Despite limited on-site parking, Anfield’s atmosphere, 61,276-seat capacity, and impressive 4.7 Google rating gave it the edge. Its location – just 20 metres from the nearest train station – helped seal top spot, along with fan-friendly prices: £3.30 for a pint and £3.40 for a pie.

Second place went to Old Trafford, which also happens to be the largest stadium in the ranking at 74,197. With beer priced at £3.00 and pies at £4.20, and excellent accessibility (0.09 km from the nearest station), the Theatre of Dreams still pulls its weight despite future redevelopment plans. It posted an overall score of 8.46.

Newcastle United’s St James’ Park came third, powered by a strong 4.6 Google rating and central location, less than 200 metres from transport links. Its matchday charm helped it reach a score of 6.80, though it lost ground due to more expensive refreshments – £4.90 for a pint – and no dedicated parking.

Outside the Premier League, Blackburn Rovers’ Ewood Park emerged as the best-value stadium, with a combined pie and pint costing just £6.30 – the cheapest in the country. That earned it a snack affordability score of 9.33.

At the other end of the scale, Arsenal’s Emirates Stadium was rated the UK’s most expensive ground for food and drink, with a pint setting fans back £6.35 and a pie £4.80—justifying a snack affordability rating of 1.41.

The study offers a light-hearted but insightful look at the fan experience, combining data points often overlooked in more traditional rankings. While iconic status and on-pitch success play a big part in how a stadium is remembered, this list gives a nod to the full matchday experience—from travel headaches to half-time snacks.
