Barca wins Olmo and Víctor appeal; LaLiga says it compromises sporting integrity

April 4 – FC Barcelona have won their appeal at the CSD (Higher Sports Council) which has ruled that Dani Olmo and Pau Víctor can be registered, overturning the denial of the preliminary visa and registration of both players by LaLiga and the RFEF (Spanish Football Federation).

Olmo and Víctor were not registered initially as they would have bust the financial spending limit imposed by LaLiga on Barcelona’s squad, part of the Spanish leagues financial fair play rules.

To overcome this Barca boosted their income by reporting a €100million sale of VIP seating to Middle Eastern investors at the Spotify Nou Camp Stadium, which is currently under redevelopment.

LaLiga questioned that deal which was certified and booked into Barcelona’s accounts by an unnamed auditor who appears to have only been in the club’s employ for a few days around the end of year financial deadlines but who were then replaced by new auditors Crowe Auditores Espana, S.L.P., who in the club’s Interim Financial Statements for the first half of the 2024- 2025 season, did not include the sale of VIP seating in their financial review.

LaLiga and the RLEF thus withdrew the players’ registrations. Barca quickly appealed with the verdict going their way and Olmo and Victor now being registered to play until the end of the season.

LaLiga argues that the decision by the CSD  – Spain’s sports ministry – “is not legally sound”, and that the CSD overstepped its decision-making authority.

It contends that the decision to allow Olmo and Victor to play on compromises the principles of fair play and breaks the league’s rules.

“These measures were granted without meeting the legal conditions and procedural guarantees, thus compromising the integrity of the competition. They also contradict established case law of the Supreme Court and previous rulings by two courts that denied precautionary measures,” said LaLiga.
