Sky Sports: Newcastle suffer injury blow and double boost ahead of Chelsea trip

Sky Sports’ Keith Downie has issued an update on Kieran Trippier’s calf injury, revealing that the right-back looks set for a short spell on the sidelines.

The good news is that it’s a minor calf issue – which he picked up in Saturday’s 3-0 win over Wolves – but he’s expected to miss 2-3 weeks, keeping him out of Monday’s trip to Chelsea and our FA Cup quarter-final at Man City next Saturday.

The 33-year-old was absent from training this morning and will be replaced by Tino Livramento; who scored over the weekend and looks set to start against former club Chelsea in our Monday night trip to Stamford Bridge.

In better news, Downie has confirmed that Matt Targett and Elliot Anderson are both back in full training after overcoming long-term injuries.

Targett (hamstring) hasn’t played since our 3-0 win over Man Utd in November, while Anderson has made two cameo appearances at Blackburn and in Saturday’s victory over Wolves after returning from a back injury.

On the positive side for #NUFC both Matt Targett and Elliot Anderson in full training following injuries 🤕 #NUFC
