Leeds United insider Brian Deane believes Liam Cooper will be moved on from the Championship club this summer if Daniel Farke’s side return to the Premier League.
The 32-year-old is out of contract with Leeds at the end of the season and with him only being a bit part player this season, the likelihood of the centre-back being offered a new deal is quite low.
Cooper has only made seven starts in the Championship this campaign and has received just 637 minutes of action from Farke – the equivalent of just seven full games.
That would decrease even lower if Leeds were to return to the Premier League next season and insider Brian Deane believes the 6ft 2in defender will leave Elland Road as a result.
Speaking exclusively to Football League World via Offers.Bet, Deane has said: “I think that if they go up, they should realistically let him go and get a good contract somewhere else as they’re going have to refresh in that position. If they keep him, he’s not going to get game time.
“I know from my own experiences that you can sit and be frustrated when you think you want to stay, but unfortunately time moves on. He’s been a great servant to the club, but I’m sure they’ll come to the right agreement.
“If they keep him, it’s because they think he will be a great leader for next season, but sometimes as a player you have to start thinking about these things, and you need to be playing all the time.”
Cooper has been at Leeds since 2014 and played a big role in their return to the Premier League under Marcelo Bielsa. Fans of the Yorkshire outfit will be sad to see him go but they will understand that the defender no longer has a big role at the club.
