According to The Mirror, Leeds United are considering a summer move for Newcastle United midfielder Sean Longstaff.
They report that the Whites are ‘monitoring’ his situation as they push to seal an immediate return to the Premier League, aware of the fact he’s approaching the final 12 months of his contract on Tyneside.
Daniel Farke’s side currently sit top of the second tier following a 2-0 win over Millwall on Sunday afternoon, leaving them ahead of Leicester on goal difference and one point above Ipswich Town in third.
Eddie Howe revealed last week that Longstaff is managing a niggling ankle injury and playing with injections, but the Geordie midfielder has struggled for form this season, looking slow, ponderous and lacking in quality.
His contract situation and poor displays have left the club with a big decision to make this summer, especially if Leeds are keen. Do we cash in while we can – he’d leave on a free next summer as things stand – or hand him a new contract?
