Late in January, Xavi Hernandez dropped a bombshell as he announced his decision to leave FC Barcelona at the end of the season.
The 44-year-old insisted that the team was in need of new dynamics and him stepping away would be the best move for everyone involved.
Since his announcement, though, Barcelona have been in tremendous form, progressing to the UEFA Champions League quarterfinals while also moving up to second place in La Liga, with a late title tilt not ruled out.
As such, there has been growing calls for Xavi to continue beyond the season, even though he remains firm that his decision will not change.
Xavi remains Laporta’s favourite option
Now, journalist Jose Alvarez reports that Xavi remains Barcelona president Joan Laporta’s favourite option for the manager’s post.
The Barça supremo wants to talk to the former midfielder and discuss his continuity beyond the season.
Even when things were not going well, Laporta always backed Xavi and retained his faith in him. So, it does not come as a surprise that he wishes the club legend to stay put, especially with the team improving in recent weeks.

While Xavi remains firm on his stance on wanting to leave, reports suggest that his continuity is a possibility if three conditions are met.
For starters, Barcelona’s form will be crucial and if they carry on in the same direction as currently, Xavi could be a step closer to continuing.
Apart from that, Xavi would want the club to extend an official request to stay, something that is unlikely to be a problem if Laporta is so eager for him to continue.
Finally, finances will also be a bone of contention for the team needs strengthening and Xavi would like assurances about the club being able to spend on new players.
