Barcelona could pocket €10 million as Man United, Chelsea eye former defender

As Barcelona look ahead to the summer transfer window, it becomes increasingly clear that they do not have much in their hands.

Strapped for funds, the Catalans have their hands largely tied as they must first recover money through player sales before investing in reinforcements.

The possible sale of Jean-Clair Todibo, who is currently playing for OGC Nice in France, thus plays in favour of Joan Laporta & co.

The youngster is one of Ligue 1’s highest-rated players, and his sale would directly provide a return to the Catalans’ coffers.

The sell-on clause

Barcelona retained 20% rights of the player when they sold him to Nice for €8 million. They are thus entitled to a fifth of any fee the French club earn on his departure.

According to the latest update from SPORT, Nice are ready to open the door to Todibo’s exit this summer and realise that they can not cling onto the rapidly progressing player for much longer.

They have, thus, set a price tag of around €50 million for his signing.

With clubs including Manchester United, Chelsea and Tottenham interested in his signing, the Blaugranas could thus make up to €10 million from the transaction.

Door to Barcelona closed

Todibo’s exponential growth in France is not surprising to the offices in Catalonia, for the youngster shone in his few minutes as a Barcelona player as well.

Ernesto Valverde, however, never fancied the player’s profile and the lack of backing from within the club forced Todibo to look for new pastures.

The Spanish outlet reveals that his good progress at Nice did initiate interest in Catalonia over securing a return.

However, Pau Cubarsi’s recent growth and the overall surplus of resources leave that possibility as a very remote one.

Barcelona, after all, really need the injection of funds and could use the incoming €10 million to readjust the salary limit and plan for the summer.
