Cameron Carter-Vickers, Celtic advance to Scottish Cup Final

American defender Cameron Carter-Vickers will be playing for yet another trophy in Scotland this May.

Carter-Vickers and Celtic advanced to May 25th’s Scottish Cup Final after defeating Aberdeen 6-5 on penalty kicks after the sides played out a 3-3 scoreline through 120 minutes. The U.S. men’s national team centerback went the distance in Brendan Rodgers’ backline.

Aberdeen struck first through Bojan Miovski’s second-minute opener before Nicolas-Gerrit Kuhn equalized for Celtic in the 21st minute.

James Forrest propelled Celtic in front 2-1 in the 63rd minute, but Aberdeen would rally late to force extra time. Ester Sokler’s 90th minute tying goal forced the two teams to 30 minutes of extra time at Hampden Park.

Celtic’s Matt O’Riley gave the visiting a 3-2 lead before the first interval of extra time, but once again Aberdeen used a late tying goal to force spot kicks. Angus MacDonald finished off Junior Hoilett’s pass to give Aberdeen another lifeline.

Ryan Duncan and Killian Phillips both missed their spot kicks though as Celtic advanced to its second-straight Scottish Cup Final.

Fellow American Dante Polvara played 79 minutes in the loss for Aberdeen, who now aims to avoid relegation from the SPFL.

Carter-Vickers and Celtic meanwhile remain top of the league heading into its final five SPFL matches of the season.
