Anthony Gordon close to joining elite group and incredible St James’ Park stats

Anthony Gordon is one assist away from joining an elite group of Premier League players to reach double figures for goals and assists in a single 38-game season.

The winger is up to 10 goals and nine assists in 32 league appearances this season after setting up Bruno’s header on Saturday. He’s also won six penalties across the campaign, although these do no technically register as assists.

Should he set up another goal in our remaining four games against Burnley, Brighton, Man Utd and Brentford he’ll join the likes of Wayne Rooney, Frank Lampard, Mohamed Salah, Didier Drogba, Eric Cantona, Thierry Henry, Luis Suarez, Riyad Mahrez and Son Heung-Min in achieving double figures for goals and assists; an incredible achievement at the age of 23.

Not only that, only Cole Palmer (17) has been involved in more home goals in the Premier League than Gordon, who has played a part in 16 thanks to nine goals and seven assists.

On the subject of St James’ Park, we are now the top scorers in the Premier League on home turf this season. We’ve bagged 48 goals in 18 games on Tyneside, with Aston Villa next on 45, followed by Man City, Liverpool and Arsenal on 43.

Not only that, Bayern Munich (51) are the only side in Europe’s top five league to have scored more goals at home this season. Quite a stat and proof that we’re developing the attacking side of our game under Eddie Howe.

So, hopefully Gordon can bag another assist in our final four games and we see another game of (Newcastle) goals in our final home game of the season; a home clash with Brighton next Saturday.
