The team sheets are in ahead of today’s final home game of the 2023/24 season, where Eddie Howe’s Mags take on Roberto De Zerbi’s Brighton at St James’ Park. Here’s the side we’ve gone with:
NUFC XI: Dubravka – Livramento, Krafth, Burn, Hall – Longstaff, Bruno, Anderson – Murphy, Isak, Gordon.
SUBS: Pope, Dummett, A Murphy, Trippier, Almiron, Joelinton, Ritchie, White, Barnes.
One change from last week, with Callum Wilson dropping out and Elliot Anderson starting as we return to a 4-3-3.
Refreshing to see such a strong bench after all of our injury woes this season and great to see big guns like Bruno Guimaraes, Anthony Gordon and Alexander Isak start once again after they tore Burnley apart in last weekend’s 4-1 win.
Gordon was voted the club’s Player of the Season yesterday and will have a point to prove after he was left out of the Premier League’s Young Player of the Season shortlist earlier this week.
We won this fixture 4-1 last May to all but seal Champions League football and there’s a similar feel coming into this one. Win and we’ll move a step closer to Europe, piling the pressure on Chelsea (who play away to Nottingham Forest at 5.30pm) and Man Utd (who play at home to Arsenal tomorrow).
It’s a big chance to end our home campaign on a high against a Brighton side who’ve lost seven of their last 10 away games in all competitions, failing to score in six.
Howay the lads!
