Barcelona have built a knack for producing dramatic storylines throughout the campaign, and the recent news of Xavi Hernandez’s potential departure adds to the unpredictability surrounding the club.
After giving a blunt reality check ahead of the game against Almeria, where Xavi discussed a number of financial concerns, his words may now come back to bite him.
Indeed, Joan Laporta and the board have been left dissatisfied with the coach’s pessimistic outlook, with talk of an exit seemingly gaining traction.
When considering the financial implications of Xavi’s departure, though, Barcelona faces some problems.
How much will firing Xavi cost?
As per Mundo Deportivo Xavi’s dismissal by the club will incur a cost of €20 million, plus the expenses associated with hiring a new technical staff associated with the coach.
Xavi will not be paid in full or will simply be paid less if he decides he is not up to it and walks away of his own volition.

However, he will be able to fully assert the terms of his signed contract until 2025 if he is fired arbitrarily.
Considering Barcelona’s fickle financial state and desire to return to the 1:1 rule in La Liga, this could massively strain the club’s pocket and potentially harm their prospects in the summer transfer window.
Decision over future not yet reached
Despite the tense situation, Xavi and his staff have not yet been informed about Barcelona’s decision over the manager’s future.
And as of now, Barcelona continues to evaluate his continuity behind the scenes, with more clarity expected to come in the following hours or days.
After triumphing over Almeria, the Catalan giants play Rayo Vallecano this Sunday, and thus the team would be hoping to restore some stability before the clash commences.
