Barcelona’s win over Rayo Vallecano at the weekend was special for a number of reasons, the most important being that it secured the team’s second place in the league standings.
A Pedri brace after coming off the bench helped the team to a 3-0 win on the night, but it was Robert Lewandowski’s early opener that handed the team the initial momentum at Montjuic.
The goal, which was the Pole’s 18th in La Liga this season, boosted his position in the race for the Pichichi award but also brought some unavoidable developments for the Catalan administration.
A new payment
As revealed by Mundo Deportivo, the striker’s goal on the night was his 25th of the season across all competitions, thus triggering a clause on the terms of his transfer agreement.
With the Polish international touching the 25-goal mark this season, Barcelona must now pay Bayern Munich an additional €1.25 million as add-ons.

In fact, the club made a similar payment to the Bavarian giants last season as well when Lewandowski hit the same milestone. Considering the striker’s good form in the second half of the season, the payment cannot be frowned upon much.
A tad bit too far
Lewandowski’s strike against Rayo Vallecano at the weekend took his season’s tally in La Liga to 18 goals, and he is currently placed in fourth place in the Pichichi race.
With just one game to go, however, the award seems to be a tad bit too far for Lewy to pursue. After all, Alexander Sorloth’s mammoth four-goal haul against Real Madrid on Sunday night took him to the pole position with 23 goals.
Even if the Villarreal striker does not score in the team’s final game against Osasuna, Lewandowski would require five goals against Sevilla to even level the scores with Sorloth.
