Barcelona will oversee a change in managers next week as Xavi Hernandez will step down to make way for Hansi Flick.
Xavi’s departure was officially confirmed on Friday and even though there is no announcement about his successor, Flick is understood to be the man to take over, with an agreement already in place.
The change in management is likely to have an impact on the futures of some Barcelona players. For example, Flick’s arrival is expected to hand a new lease on life for Vitor Roque at the club.
Marcos Alonso’s situation unchanged
However, as per Fabrizio Romano, the situation of Marcos Alonso remains unchanged despite the imminent arrival of Hansi Flick.
The veteran left-back will still leave Barcelona as a free agent this summer, with his contract set to expire on June 30.
It had been suggested that Alonso would be headed to Barcelona’s La Liga rivals Atletico Madrid if nothing changes.

However, the update from Fabrizio Romano denies that, as the Italian transfer expert claims there are no negotiations taking place between the veteran defender and Los Rojiblancos at this point.
So, quite where Alonso ends up in the summer remains a mystery at this point, with the Spanish defender fielding several other offers apart from the one from Atletico Madrid.
Alonso joined Barcelona from Chelsea in the summer of 2022 for free after terminating his contract with the Premier League giants.
The Spanish ace enjoyed a fruitful debut campaign when he featured fairly regularly under Xavi, even playing as a makeshift centre-back on many occasions.
This season, though, Alonso has barely taken the field, with injuries and competition for places keeping him out of the side.
Now, with the season coming to a closure, the defender’s exit is a given, despite the change in management, and it remains to be seen where he ends up.
