Fabrizio Romano reveals what he’s been told on Tosin Adarabioyo and Lloyd Kelly

Fabrizio Romano has offered an update on the future of Tosin Adarabioyo and Lloyd Kelly; two out-of-contract defenders the club have been pushing to sign this summer.

All looked close to being wrapped, who are hoping to complete two key free transfers early on in the window, with Tosin and Kelly both available after rejecting contract offers at their respective clubs.

However, both Man United and Chelsea have shown serious interest in the Fulham centre-back and will be able to offer him European football which Newcastle narrowly missed out on.

Speaking on The Debrief podcast, Romano claimed that he believes Newcastle are still the favourites to sign Adarabioyo despite Chelsea’s pursuit and that we have been working on a deal for him since March. Here’s what Romano said:

“First of all it’s an open situation. I still see Newcastle as favourites because Newcastle started to work on this deal in March. For Tosin there is still discussions ongoing but I see Newcastle as favourites.

“Interest from Chelsea has been there since the final week of March, Chelsea are well informed on Tosin.

“I’m not aware of anything advanced with Chelsea. I’m not sure anything is decided with Chelsea, I think the situation is still quite open with Newcastle pushing to make it happen.”

On Lloyd Kelly, the journalist said he is “100%” sure the defender will be signing this summer:

“Newcastle want Tosin and Lloyd Kelly, I expect Lloyd Kelly to 100% be a Newcastle player in the summer transfer window.”

Eddie Howe will be hoping to get things wrapped up as early as possible to get any new signings up to speed and ready for our pre-season which includes a trip to Japan at the end of July.
