Tyler Adams might have been reduced to only five appearances this year for club and country, but the U.S. men’s national team midfielder is moving closer to add to that total in the coming weeks.
Adams was part of the USMNT’s initial training session Wednesday ahead of June’s pair of pre-Copa America friendlies vs. Colombia and Brazil. The Bournemouth midfielder endured a tough first campaign with the Cherries, re-aggravating a hamstring injury last fall, which forced him to miss most of the season.
After making his 2024 debut in mid-March, Adams made two additional club appearances for Bournemouth, in addition to his positive pair of USMNT shifts during the CONCACAF Nations League Final Four.
Now as Adams aims to get back to full fitness yet again, USMNT assistant coach B.J. Callaghan provided an update that fans will be excited to hear.
“I can just tell you that [Adams] is in great spirits,” Callaghan said Wednesday to media. “He’s looking fit, he’s here in training and we’ve had a really great partnership with Bournemouth over the last couple weeks to make sure that we’ve developed a plan that’s going to allow him to maximize his performance here throughout the friendlies and Copa.”
Adams will be joined by several familiar faces in the USMNT midfield corps including Weston McKennie, Yunus Musah, and Luca De La Torre. The USMNT will take on Colombia and Brazil before opening Group C play at the Copa America against Bolivia on June 23.
