Real Madrid have announced they will sign “spectacular” Kylian Mbappe after the France captain’s contract at Paris St-Germain ends on June 30.
Mbappe verbally agreed to join the Spanish champions in February before announcing in May that he was in the final season of his seven-year stay at his homeland’s most successful side.
“He comes to the European champions as a world star,” a Madrid statement said, issued two days after Carlo Ancelotti’s squad beat Borussia Dortmund to win the Uefa Champions League.
“At 25 years old, he has just had his highest scoring season with Paris Saint-Germain and has been top scorer in the French League for the sixth consecutive edition.”
The deal concludes Madrid’s long-running pursuit of Mbappe, offering PSG around £170 million for him in 2021 and holding talks with the 2018 Fifa World Cup winner before he signed a new contract with Paris in 2022.
Mbappe is PSG’s all-time record scorer, his 256 goals putting him 56 clear of next-nearest marksman Edinson Cavani. He has been their top scorer in every season since making his move from Monaco permanent for £166 million in 2018, including 47 goals in 44 appearances this season.
Previously a French champion in 2016/17 with his former club, Mbappe won six Ligue 1 titles with PSG and the Coupe de France four times.
