Sergino Dest left FC Barcelona to join PSV Eindhoven on a season-long loan last summer and enjoyed a promising stint.
However, a serious injury late in the season meant that the USMNT right-back is now sidelined until 2025, putting a potential permanent transfer to the Dutch club in jeopardy.
PSV still interested, but want a discount
It must be remembered that PSV had a €11 million permanent purchase clause in the loan deal with Barcelona for Sergino Dest.
It was initially expected that the Dutch outfit would press ahead with the permanent signing of the full-back but the injury has put a dampener on the plans.
However, as per journalist Rik Elfrink, PSV Eindhoven are still interested in signing Dest permanently and are working on the signing in the background.

But, there is a caveat – the Dutch giants would want to sign the former Ajax man for a fee lesser than the €11 million fee that was inserted in the loan agreement between the two clubs.
It is because PSV would not be in a position to pay that fee as well as afford Dest’s full salary if he joins permanently.
Furthermore, considering that Dest’s contract expires in 2025 and that he would not be able to play until next year as well, PSV believe that it is only fair for them to hold out for a discount on the €11 million fee.
The report adds that there has not been any significant progress made in the operation but all parties remain calm with PSV’s idea being to sign Dest if Barcelona decide to offer a concession.
