According to Mark Douglas at the i, Newcastle have shortlisted Crystal Palace’s Michael Olise and Chelsea’s Noni Madueke as potential targets to replace Miguel Almiron.
The North-East reporter reveals that club insiders expect a ‘summer overhaul’ at St James’ Park and it’s well documented that a move for a new right winger is top of our priority list.
The Athletic’s David Ornstein revealed earlier today that Newcastle have made contact with Palace over a potential deal for Olise – who will have his pick of clubs this summer – but Madueke is an intriguing link following his superb end-of-season form for Chelsea.
Ironically, the 22-year-old may lose his first-team slot to Olise should the Eagles star end up at Chelsea, who are also showing serious interest. He has bags of pace, is direct and will know the likes of Anthony Gordon and James Trafford (another Toon target) from his time with England’s U21s.
As for Almiron, Mark Douglas reports that Almiron is ‘set to depart this summer’ and retains interest from Saudi Arabia after coming close to leaving for the Middle East in January.
Douglas adds that Olise’s £60m release clause – a fee considerably lower than his market value – appeals to Newcastle, but Newcastle are aware of the high level of interest in the winger, with Chelsea, Man Utd, Man City and Bayern Munich also keen.
