According to reports in Italy, Newcastle United have shown interest in a potential summer move for Atalanta goalkeeper Juan Musso.
This comes from Italian outlet Tutto Mercato, who claim that Newcastle have enquired about the Argentinian’s availability after suggestions he could leave the Serie A side this summer.
The 30-year-old played 24 times last season and started 12 of their 13 Europa League games as they went on to beat Bayer Leverkusen 3-0 in last month’s final. However, it’s believed the goalkeeper will be allowed to leave this summer for a fee in the region of £8-£10m.
The report states that Newcastle have shown interest along with Villarreal, who are looking for an ‘experienced’ option to compete with Filip Jorgensen; the young Dane who was linked with a move to Newcastle before signing a new deal with the La Liga side last week.
Newcastle have been locked in talks to sign Burnley goalkeeper James Trafford, who appears to be our leading targets, at present, as we look to bring in a young stopper to compete with Nick Pope.
With that in mind, it casts doubts over links with a 30-year-old who wouldn’t be coming in as third choice to replace Loris Karius. I’d file this one in the highly unlikely category.
