With the new season almost upon us, UEFA has released the updated coefficient rankings for clubs heading into the 2024/25 campaign.
With the places for the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup already decided and distributed, the clubs found out where they stand in the ranking.
And, FC Barcelona have endured a steep fall to the 18th position in the coefficient rankings, dropping out of the top ten.
One has to go back a long way to see Barcelona in such a backward position in the UEFA rankings.
Last July the Blaugrana were in ninth place in the UEFA rankings, but the fact that the last five seasons are taken into account for the coefficient calculations has caused the club to fall down the rankings.

After all, until last season, the Catalans had endured some difficult campaigns in Europe, most notably crashing out of the competition in group stages in consecutive seasons in 2021/22 and 2022/23.
The Blaugrana did end that poor trend this past season as they made it as far as the quarter-finals, where they lost out to PSG.
But it was not enough to stop them from experiencing a steep fall in coefficient rankings, while it also meant that they missed out on a spot in the revamped FIFA Club World Cup in 2025.
Barcelona, as per the latest rankings, find themselves behind clubs like Villarreal, FC Porto, RB Leipzig, Chelsea, Bayer Leverkusen, Atletico Madrid, and West Ham United on the list.
Manchester City occupy the top position in the coefficient rankings with Barcelona’s arch-rivals Real Madrid sit second. Bayern Munich and Liverpool are third and fourth respectively.
