There is much excitement in the Barcelona camp as they embark on a pre-season tour to the United States.
Several youth players are a part of the setup, with Hansi Flick likely to keep a close eye on each and every one of them during the course of the trip.
In addition to the players and coaches, Barcelona’s executive chiefs such as Joan Laporta, Ferran Olivier and Mikel Camps are also travelling to the United States.
However, one personality missing from Barcelona’s trip across the Atlantic is sporting director Deco.
Why Deco is staying back
A recent report from Mundo Deportivo has shed more light on Deco’s absence from the trip to the United States.
It appears the Brazilian is staying back particularly because of Nico Williams, who is likely to issue his response to Barcelona’s offer anytime now.

Given that Nico is the club’s top target this summer, Deco will stay back to complete any negotiations, especially if the Spanish forward accepts a move to Barça.
In addition to the Nico pursuit, Deco’s presence in Spain will be key in helping facilitate the negotiations with RB Leipzig over Dani Olmo, the club’s other top target.
Deco must also resolve the futures of Clement Lenglet, Vitor Roque and Raphinha, two players facing an uncertain future at Camp Nou heading into the new season.
It must be noted that Raphinha has recently received a lucrative offer from Saudi Arabia. Deco’s presence, to that end, could be key as he looks to convince the Barcelona forward to put an early end to his career in Catalonia.
