Steve Bruce close to shock return to football after talks – Report

Steve Bruce has emerged as a frontrunner to become the new manager of the Jamaican National Team.

In an exclusive from the Daily Mail’s Mike Keegan, it’s emerged that Bruce has met with Jamaican officials and could replace former manager Heimir Hallgrímsson, who resigned at the end of last month after a disappointing Copa America campaign.

It’s believed that a decision about the vacant position could be decided in as little as 10 days, so we could know soon if Bruce really is set for an unlikely return to football management and his first role on the international scene.

The 63-year-old, who was much maligned during his time as Newcastle manager between 2019 and 2021, has been out of management since October 2022. In his last role he was sacked by West Brom following a disastrous eight month spell which left the Baggies in the relegation zone after only one win from their opening 13 games of the campaign.

Bruce has reportedly been itching to get back into football management, in spite of the negative outcome of his recent spells at the Hawthorns, St James’ Park and Villa Park.

It was at Newcastle that he reached his 1000th game as a manager, but a potential future stint at the ‘Reggae Boyz’ would in fact be Bruce’s first foray into international football, having never managed at that level previously and famously never securing a cap for England as a player.
