The one surprising aspect of the ongoing summer transfer window for Barcelona is the apparent lack of big-name departures.
Joan Laporta and his team were expected to consider significant sales this summer, especially given the club’s economic situation and the arrival of a new manager.
However, uncertainties over new signings and injuries to potentially saleable players have slowed the Blaugrana’s progress on that front.
Deco Freezes Operations
According to a recent update from SPORT, Barcelona’s sporting director Deco has ‘freezed’ all departure operations until the club makes tangible progress with incoming transfers.
The administration prefers to confirm new signings before offloading players, to avoid creating gaps that cannot be filled.
Moreover, the futures of Joao Cancelo, Joao Felix, and Sergi Roberto are all dependent on the same factor.

As it stands, Barcelona hopes to gain clarity on the futures of Dani Olmo and Nico Williams next week. One can thus expect rapid developments in terms of departures after the U.S. tour.
Two Areas in Focus
If Barcelona manages to secure their two attacking targets this summer, the sales of players like Vitor Roque and Ansu Fati could accelerate in the coming weeks.
The former has travelled with the squad to the US but has been largely linked with an exit while the latter misses on the pre-season tour through injury. Moreover, Raphinha is another candidate who could leave this summer.
The situation in defence, however, remains less clear. Clement Lenglet is one player likely to depart, but the club may need to sell another prominent defender.
With Ronald Araujo injured and Jules Kounde and Andreas Christensen in good form, it remains to be seen which player might be sacrificed.
