Newcastle move closer to Marc Guehi deal and Mitchell set for “very busy” few weeks after Crystal Palace talks

In his latest piece for the i, Mark Douglas has issued an encouraging update on Marc Guehi and Newcastle’s push for signings over the final three weeks of the summer window.

Starting with Guehi, he reports that talks have been ‘positive and optimistic’ in recent days as the club edge closer to agreeing a fee for the 24-year-old centre-back.

It’s believed there’s currently a £10m gap in valuation and Crystal Palace have been holding out for £65m. However, Douglas believes a meet-in-the-middle deal of £55m plus achievable add-ons could get it done, as Guehi wants the move and personal terms as ‘as good as agreed.’

In the same piece, an unnamed source close to the club tells the iNews that Paul Mitchell looks set for a “very busy” end to the summer window, with the club hoping to sign a right winger along with a right-footed centre-back in Guehi.

PSR ‘remains a problem’ and insiders have told the i that it’s limiting our ability to make several ‘game-changing’ signings unless players are sold. However, the latter could be a theme over the next few weeks, with a host of outgoings likely.
