Luis Rojo, a journalist for MARCA, has shared that Barcelona are set to officially register Inigo Martinez before their upcoming match against Valencia. The club has already begun the necessary steps to make this happen.
Unfortunately, their new signing, Dani Olmo, will not be registered in time to participate in the same game.
There has been significant concern about whether Barcelona could manage to register new players given their financial constraints. However, the club has found enough room within their salary cap to include the experienced defender.
Interestingly, during the last transfer window, he was only registered on the final day, reflecting how tight the club’s finances have been.
Options in defence for Flick
For the match against Valencia, Hansi Flick will have five central defenders to choose from: Pau Cubarsi, Eric Garcia, Andreas Christensen, Jules Kounde, and Martinez. Each of these players is in different stages of readiness.

For example, Cubarsi and Garcia have had limited training with the first team as they were recently involved in the Olympic Games. Kounde, who typically plays as a central defender, is expected to play as a right-back in the Valencia match.
Christensen, on the other hand, might be used in midfield due to the team’s current shortage of players in that position. This makes Martinez’s presence even more crucial. The club is keen to ensure that Martinez’s registration is confirmed by Friday.
Different story for Olmo
As for Olmo, he will not be travelling with the team. Flick believes it is too soon for him to join the squad, as he has only completed three full training sessions with his new teammates.
Instead, Olmo will stay in Barcelona to continue his training, with the aim of integrating him into the team more gradually.
