With only a week left before the transfer window closes, Barcelona are yet to find a resolution for the future of out-of-favour defender Clement Lenglet.
The French international is back at the club after two years on loan in England with Tottenham and Aston Villa.
Even though he featured prominently in pre-season, Lenglet has no future a Barcelona as the club cannot afford to bear his mammoth €16 million per year wages in their current situation.
A move to Atletico Madrid, on loan, has been in the works for some time now, but reports earlier today suggested that the transfer could be on the brink of collapsing as Los Rojiblancos were going after David Hancko instead.

But now MARCA reports that Atletico Madrid see Lenglet as the ‘favourite’ option to reinforce the backline with a left-footed defender before the transfer window closes.
In fact, Fabrizio Romano has given the ‘Here we go’ seal for the transfer
While a move for Hancko was being explored, the operation has hit various hurdles prompting Diego Simeone’s men to completely shift their focus towards Barcelona’s Lenglet.

As has already been reported, an agreement in principle already exists between the French defender and Atletico Madrid.
Atleti are working on the departures of players like Samu Omorodion, Santiago Mourino, and another unnamed player. Once that is out of the way, the path will be completely cleared for them to bring Lenglet in.
As mentioned earlier, it will only be a loan move no buy option. Atletico Madrid will cover the major part of his salary. A medical has also been booked.
It is expected that the Frenchman signs a new contract, extending it by another year, before leaving so as to spread his wages over a longer period, thus reducing the burden on the club to some extent.
