Despite their iffy financial situation and troubles registering marquee summer signing Dani Olmo, Barcelona remain intent on signing a new left winger.
Earlier today, reports emerged claiming that there was an agreement in place to sign Juventus outcast Federico Chiesa for €12 million.
But soon, Spanish media claimed that a move for the Italian had been ruled out as Barcelona are not in a position to register any new player at this point.
Rafael Leao still on the agenda
Despite that, now Jose Alvarez of El Chiringuito claims that Barcelona still see Rafael Leao of AC Milan as their top target and will not give up on his pursuit until the end of the transfer window.
The journalist states that sources from the club are denying any agreement for the signing of Chiesea, but are not ruling out a signing, with Leao still very much their preferred option.
A move for the 25-year-old Portuguese international was seen as practically impossible given that any move for him could cost around €90-100 million.

Despite that, the Catalans are not ruling out a move for the attacker and believe that an operation can be pushed through by offering players in exchange.
Superagent Jorge Mendes, who has close ties with the Blaugrana, is also the representative of Leao and will have a key role to play if the operation is to see the light of the day.
Leao a pipedream at this point
Considering that Barcelona are finding it hard to register Dani Olmo despite parting ways with several players, quite how they would sign Leao and get him enrolled in La Liga remains a huge quandary.
Even if they utilise the sum set aside to sign Nico Williams and offer a player or two in exchange for the Portuguese international, the total cost of the operation and his wages would make his registration next to impossible.
Chiesa, on the other hand, would be a much more…
