Barcelona youngster signs renewal until 2026 ahead of loan exit

Having already bid goodbye to youngsters like Vitor Roque and Mika Faye this summer, FC Barcelona are now all set to see off another young talent in Alex Valle.

As reported over the weekend, the 20-year-old left-back is set to depart Barça on loan, with a move to Scottish giants Celtic on the cards.

Alex Valle signs new contract before leaving on loan

Now, Mundo Deportivo reports that before leaving on loan, Alex Valle has signed a new contract with Barcelona tying him down to the club until the summer of 2026.

The extension of his contract was formalised this morning at the Ciutat Esportiva.

Valle’s existing contract with the club stood to expire in 2025. The Catalans had the opportunity to trigger a unilateral extension but they decided against it before the clause expired on August 1.

If Barça had activated that option, Valle’s salary would have risen by €1 million and his new release clause amount would stand at €30 million. But not activating it meant that the youngster’s buyout clause fell to just €3 million.

However, the two parties have negotiated and agreed on a new contract until 2026, meaning Barcelona will still have control over Valle after his loan spell at Celtic ends next year, which would have not been the case had he not renewed.

As part of the new deal, Valle’s salary has been increased, which Celtic will cover, and his termination clause, which was €3 million, has also been increased, although not to the €30 million figure that Barça initially wanted.

With the renewal closed, Valle will now complete his loan move to Celtic where he will hope to play regularly and gather some much-needed experience.
