Ahead of tonight’s Carabao Cup clash at the City Ground, it’s time to predict which side Eddie Howe will select against Nuno’s Nottingham Forest. Here’s the team we think he’ll go for and why:
Predicted line-up: (4-3-3) Pope – Trippier, Krafth, Burn, Hall – Tonali, Bruno, Willock – Almiron, Isak, Barnes.
Howe said “we’ll make changes” during yesterday’s press conference but sounded confident in doing so, insisting that we have plenty of quality in reserve and several players “eager to show what they can do.”
With that in mind, I think we might see Trippier, Hall, Tonali, Willock, Barnes and Almiron come in for Livramento, Kelly, Longstaff, Joelinton, Murphy and Gordon.
I wouldn’t be shocked if Kelly plays at centre-back to give Burn a night off, but that would form an untested partnership with Krafth. At left-back, Targett may be one to watch after he’s returned from his injury woes, although Hall feels more likely to slot back in.
Tonali could well start from the bench, yet Howe was full of praise for his fitness levels and spoke like a man who felt the Italian was 100% ready, while Willock and Barnes will surely start after positive cameos at Bournemouth.
I’d prefer to se Gordon down the right, but it may be a night for Miggy’s first start of the season, unless there’s something we don’t know about and he’s heading for the exit door.
