Zach Booth is on his way back to the Netherlands, but this time in a permanent move.
Booth joined Eerste Divisie side Excelsior from English Premier League side Leicester City, both teams announced Wednesday. The 20-year-old signed a three-year deal, which will run through the 2026-27 season.
“Zach Booth brings experience from the Eredivisie and had the desire to play football with a dominant team in the Netherlands,” Excelsior Technical manager Niels van Duinen said. “We followed him closely last season. After Oscar’s departure, we wanted to add something extra offensively. As a right-legged outsider with speed, he provides threat, he can play the depth and put his fellow players in position. We are proud that he is now finally coming from Leicester City.”
Booth spent last season on loan with Dutch club FC Volendam, scoring two goals and adding two assists in 28 combined appearances. An attacking midfielder by trade, Booth also made 38 combined appearances between Leicester’s Under-18 and Under-21 teams, scoring three goals.
Brother of FC Utrecht attacker Taylor, Booth featured for both the U.S. Under-17 and Under-19 men’s national teams in the past. He now heads back to Holland with hopes of helping Excelsior earn promotion back to the Eredivsie.
“The club’s ambitious plans appealed to me a lot, which was decisive for me to sign here,” Booth said. “This vision fits perfectly with my personal goals, where I can develop myself even further. I want to compete with the team for promotion and do my part with goals, assists, and creating opportunities for myself and my teammates. I have many ambitions, and I am convinced that Excelsior is the right place to get better every day.”
Excelsior are ninth in the Eerste Divisie standings and next visits ADO Den Haag on Friday.
